— Let's Pretend

Beaver Lake Nature Center invites children 3 to 5 years old, accompanied by an adult, to learn about animals that live at Beaver Lake by acting out how they behave. Each session in the new "Let's Pretend" series includes a craft and outdoor activities.

For each session, choose a Wednesday or a Saturday; $5 per child per session.

"I'm a Gray Squirrel," 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, or 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27

"I'm a Beaver," 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, or 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11

"I'm a Great Blue Heron," 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, or 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25

Trail tales

Preschool-age children, accompanied by an adult, are invited to gather at Beaver Lake Nature Center for the popular Trail Tales program at 1 p.m. Thursdays, April 25, May 9 and 23. A naturalist reads two stories to the children and then leads the group on a hike themed to match the stories. This program is free with admission.

Nature sketching and journaling program

Adults can dabble in the art of observing and drawing nature this spring at Beaver Lake Nature Center in the six-week nature sketching and journaling program. From 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 18, May 2, 9, 16 and 23, participants will learn about different sketching and journaling techniques from a naturalist and become more familiar with different places around the park. All artistic levels are welcome. Journals are included in registration fee, but participants should bring their own pencils, colored pencils and any other art supplies. $58; registration required.

Guided weekend walks

Beaver Lake Nature Center invites visitors to join a naturalist for a guided weekend walk at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in April, free with admission. Topics for each weekend's walks are listed below:
