— Baldwisville’s Jade Earle and Erica Monaco traveled to San Jose, Calif., to compete in the National Girls Hockey Championship April 3 to 7. As members of the U14 Syracuse Nationals Girl Tier 1 Ice Hockey Team, which consists of players from Watertown, Albany, Binghamton and Syracuse, the players helped their team to win the state championship on March 10 so they could travel to California to compete with 11 teams from across the country. Earle, a ninth grader at Durgee Junior High School, and Monaco, a seventh grader at Ray Middle School, have been playing hockey since age 4 beginning with the Lysander Hockey Association’s boys’ team. Earle played hockey with the boys until age 13 and also plays field hockey. In addition to hockey, Monaco is also a member of the district’s swim team.
