Girls lax Warriors drop rematch with West Genny

Liverpool responds with one-sided romp over Oswego

Actually, there were two rematches of 2012 Section III Class A title games last Thursday afternoon, one for each gender.

Just before the boys Warriors topped West Genesee again, the girls Warriors were at Camillus, looking to even things up with the reigning state Class A champions – but unable to do so, falling in an 11-4 decision.

For a half, the Warriors, who had Tuesday's tune-up game with Oswego snowed out, kept it close, yet could not get on the board against a ferocious Wildcat defense, trailing 4-0 at the break.

Meghan DiMarco did score twice in the second half, with Lauren Mancini and Alexis Kline also finding the net, but WG still pulled further away, overcoming the nine saves from Liverpool goalie Jenna Zajac with relentless pressure.

No single player hurt the Warriors too much, but Vicki Graveline, who handled much of the draws, and Hannah Elmer each notched three-goal hat tricks, while Alia Hildebrandt finished with two goals and one assist.

They would make up the Oswego game on Saturday at LHS Stadium, and it turned into an impressive showcase for the Warriors, who seemed to get better as the day went on and routed the Buccaneers 16-3.

Here, in complete detail, was a showcase of what Liverpool could do. It steadily worked its way to a 6-2 halftime lead and, in the second half, continually pushed and continually produced scoring plays.

At the helm of all this were two proven senior hands. Mancini powered her way to five goals, while Mallorie O’Brien, shut out in the West Genesee game, scored four times.

Emily Burns and Kasi Cabrey chimed in, each with two goals, as Julia Sardella managed one goal and one assist. Jen Kershner and Cassidy Hall notched one goal apiece as Jessica Attaway earned two assists. Ntalie Parkins also had an assist.

Another big game looms Tuesday as Liverpool goes to Bragman Stadium to face rival Cicero-North Syracuse, prior to Friday’s non-league game against Marcellus.
