Celebrating the Welsh

One of the biggest local celebrations is in Remsen, NY -- the Remsen Barn Festival of Fine Arts, of which the Gymanfa Ganu is only a part. It is held annually on the fourth weekend in September. The Old Welsh Church in Nelson, NY has only evening services and only in summer, starting June first, culminating in a Gymanfa Ganu on the second weekend in September. Built in 1876, it has no plumbing or heating, and is noted for its simple beauty, having made the National Register of Historical Places. It is certainly one of our least known local treasures.
