Area boys indoor track and field teams made their first short trek to SRC Arena for Wednesday night’s Jack Morse Holiday Relays, and found a fair amount of success. In fact, Solvay made it all the way to fifth place with 31.5 points, beaten only by the large-school quartet of Cicero-North Syracuse, Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool and Jamesville-DeWitt. West Genesee had 16 points for eighth place, with Marcellus (11 points), Westhill/Bishop Ludden (eight points) and Jordan-Elbridge (four points) also gaining high finishes by the time the meet was done. For Solvay, the big moment came in the 4×200 relay, where the Bearcats’ team of Nick Cometti, Owen Ryan, Eric Goodrich and Isaiah Lee emerged victorious, as their time of one minute, 39.49 seconds topping runner-up Homer (1:41.73) by more than two seconds. Cometti and Lee would later tie for fifth in the long jump. Right after that, in the 4×800 relay, West Genesee emerged victorious. Jack Erhard, Nate Conroy, Logan McAnulty and Sean Beney roared to first place in 8:32.12, more than half a minute clear of runner-up F-M (9:05.47) in a one-sided effort. Josh Marotti, competing in the pole vault, cleared 12 feet 3 inches to take second place behind J-D’s Zach Liebmann (13 feet), as Marotti and Dan Hatch were second on the team side, clearing 21’9” as the Red Rams (22’6”) won there, too. In the 4×400 relay, Solvay’s quartet of Josh Chrysler, Garrett Lee, Eric Goodrich and Owen Ryan made their way to third place, in 3:53.92, with WG seeing Eldon Hard, Ejay Harrell, Austin Pirro and Mark Dellefave get to fourth place in 3:58.67. Solvay also was third in the shot put, where Frank Pucello was third among individuals (42’8”) and teamed with Jacob Hook as their total throws went 79’2 ¾”. Marcellus saw its 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Alex Stopen, Will Coon, Josh Finch and Pat McGuane make their way to third place in 3:54.51 as F-M (3:51.17) took the top spot. Mike Abbott and Tom Daley were fourth in the pole vault, teaming to clear 18’6” between them, while Sean Raymond cleared 5’2” in the high jump to tie for fifth. Westhill/Ludden got most of its points from the 55-meter hurdles, where Xavier Fleurinor was fourth among individuals (8.74 seconds) as he and Chris Marnell combined for a third-place time of 18.90 seconds. WG’s Jackson Powell and Sean Relyea were fifth in 20.66 seconds. Anthony Pecoriello and Franco Tangredi were fifth (74’9”) in the shot put. All of J-E’s points came from a fourth-place finish in the distance medley relay, where Jack Gugel, Austin Milton, Dylan Whittico and Nathan Hollis made their way to fourth place in 11:44.41, not far from Baldwinsville’s winning time of 11:24.27. On his own, Whittico was ninth in the 55-meter dash in 7.01 seconds.
