It’s clear now that, while it has returned to action, the Baldwinsville boys cross country team is still not fully recovered from the alleged hazing incident that sidelined several of its runners. Proof of this could be found in last Wednesday’s meet against Cicero-North Syracuse at Oneida Shores, where the Bees were unable to keep up with the Northstars in a 20-39 defeat. Jack Martin did provide a bright moment for B’ville, winning the individual race in 16 minutes, 21.6 seconds, well clear of C-NS’s Joe Collins (16:27.1) in second place. However, none of the Bees’ other runners cracked the top six as Andrew Bearkland, Paul DeGennaro, Chris Hannan and Eric Bowen all finished before Steve Petrelli took seventh place in 17:20.4. Ryan DeLola was eighth, in 17:58 flat, but two more Northstars, Joe Tricarico and Brian Traub, rounded out the top 10. Though the girls meet between B’ville and C-NS was much closer, it still ended the same for the Bees, who fell to the Northstars 27-32. Marissa Lathrop finished second in a time of 19:40.9, only trailing C-NS’s Jacqlynn Halstead, who won in 19:24.2. Rachael Miller was third, in 19:57.4, while Mia Bolton (20:25.5) made her way to fourth place. However, the Northstars, led by Jilliann Norris in fifth place (20:31.5), swept the rest of the top 10 positions. On Saturday, both of B’ville’s teams ventured to the Tully Invitational, where in the Large School division the girls Bees finished third, with 88 points, again behind C-NS (56) as the Bees and Northstars trailed reigning seven-time national champion Fayetteville-Manlius, who won the meet with 34 points. Lathrop, with a time of 20:03.7, was sixth as Halstead (19:39.1) earned the individual title. Bolton made her way to 15th place in 21:14.1, while Kelley Hull gained 20th place in 21:40.8. Hannah Olds was 23rd (22:17.1), edging out Natalie Farnett, who finished 24th in 22:18.2. Anna Capria finished in 37th place in 23:38.9. B’ville had 147 points to finish fifth among 10 boys teams in the Large School race at Tully, as Petrelli had the best individual effort, getting to 21st place in 17:58.6. Delola’s time of 18:09.7 put him in 26th. Denis Keegan gained 30th place in 18:19.1. Cameron Morrissey (18:24.7), Harrison Warner (18:43.1), Brennan LaQue (18:52) and Ethan Craig (19:00.4) all had top-50 efforts.
