High winds greeted the Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy boys track and field teams for their head-to-head meet last Thursday afternoon, which also included Fowler. The Red Rams would sweep the boys portion, turning back the Brothers 85-38 and topping the Falcons 87-36. CBA also beat Fowler, by a more modest 57-51 margin. Nate Sturgeon and Will Hohreiter both won twice for J-D. Sturgeon covered the 110 high hurdles in 18.7 seconds and went on to take the 400 hurdles in 1:10.3, while Hohreiter prevailed in the mile (5:08.9) and also beat the field in the 3,200-meter run in 11:35.1. Dylan Volk added a victory in the triple jump, going 40 feet 2 inches, with Zach Liebmann sprinting to first place in the 400-meter dash in 55.2 seconds. Taumeras Howard won the 100-meter dash (12.2 seconds) and joined Sturgeon, Liebmann and Sean Mulvihill as J-D took the 4×100 relay in 45.2 seconds. Hohreiter, Samuel Dye, Austin Philleo and Nick Harron won the 4×800 relay in 9:28.5. CBA’s Will Brower gave his side a victory in the 800-meter run in 2:13.8, and also ran a leg in the 4×400 relay, where the Brothers, with Brower, Jack Lenkiewicz and David Carey, got first place in 3:55.6. Connor Agnew prevailed in the shot put, heaving it 44’3 ½”. This followed, by two days, the girls meet between J-D and CBA, dominated by the Red Rams as it beat the Brothers 106-15 while also ripping past Fowler 112-8. CBA beat the Falcons 52-37. Rachel Fairbanks ran to first place in both the 800 (2:38 flat) and 1,500-meter run, which she took in 5:47.1. Sierra Vasiliou had victories in her specialties, throwing the shot put 32’8” and also taking the long jump by going 16’1”. J-D swept all four of the field events, Patrece Martin going 33’9” in the triple jump and Tangela Hightower excelling in the discus with a throw of 100’6”. Martin also helped Keane, Ally Fox and Taylor-Rae Danforth as the Rams roared to first in the 4×100 in 52.8 seconds. On their own, Fox, in the 100 sprint (13.4 seconds) and Danforth, in the 100 hurdles (19.3 seconds), both got individual titles, with Carpenter beating the field in the 400 in 1:07.8. Allison Semmel needed 1:15.3 to get first place in the 400 hurdles. While CBA struggled here, it did see Megan-Ann Pierce win the 3,000 in Friday’s rain-soaked East Syracuse-Minoa Invitational, her time of 10:40.68 beating Skaneateles freshman Kaitlyn Neal (10:45.22) and the rest of the 33-runner field.
