The Liverpool Central School Board of Education announced that it has found someone to act as interim superintendent.
Edmund P. Backus, who previously headed the Hamilton Central School District in Madison County, will fill in for Dr. Richard N. Johns, who is out on medical leave. Johns is scheduled to retire July 31; Backus will hold the position until that time.
According to BOE President Patricia DeBona-Rosier, Backus is “a qualified and experienced educator.”
“Mr. Backus has experience as both a superintendent of schools and as an interim superintendent,” Rosier said. “Having an acting superintendent in place will help maintain continuity in the district’s day-to-day operations and aid us in transitioning to a new superintendent.”
Backus was appointed at the April 22 BOE meeting.
In the meantime, the search for a full-time superintendent continues. Rosier said the board anticipates being able to name a candidate by June 1.
