LETTERS: Johnson thanks crossing guards of Caz

To the editor:

It seems safe to say that the duty of crossing guard could be listed among those thankless, yet critical, jobs in our modern society.

Nowhere was that more apparent than on the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 18, when those faithful servants stood dutifully in the driving rain as the Cazenovia Central School District made the difficult decision to delay dismissal amid high wind/severe weather warnings.

Unaware, but wondering about the whereabouts of their daily charges, our village’s crossing guards waited patiently to be informed of the delay by passersby before taking much needed shelter in their vehicles.

As a lifelong “walker,” and now the parent of four “walkers,” I wish to publicly express my gratitude to these men and women who cheerfully take up the daily task of making sure our children are safe each day, regardless of the conditions.

May their futures be filled with more agreeable weather (well, at least from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. each day).

Kelli Johnson
