Cazenovia Tom Henry, retired social studies teacher and adjunct professor of history at SUNY Cortland, will present a four-session class, “Central New York and the Civil War Part I,” at the Cazenovia Public Library.
The class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Oct. 1, 15, 22 and 29.
Henry is one of the most popular class presenters at OASIS. He is well informed, interesting and entertaining.
In this class, Henry will examine the event that many consider the key to understanding the nation’s history. He will survey its greatest moments and people with a concentration on the local region and the experiences of men and women from Central New York.
Special attention will be paid to this region’s response to sectionalism and slavery, war fever and recruitment and to the experiences of local men in the first great battle of the war.
The fee for this four-part class is $38. Members of OASIS must be ages 50 or older. There is no cost to become a member. OASIS is sponsored by Upstate Medical University.
