I invited the Cazenovia Police Department, fire department and the village board, as well as the Cazenovia Rotary Club, Cazenovia College basketball teams and Cazenovia High School students to participate in a fun and competitive event planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 30.
I’m still in the planning stages of the event day, but am thinking about having mixed teams of five, and doing limited-point games.
I’d also like to organize a free throw competition, open to everyone. In bringing these groups together, the community could build a stronger connection with each other through positive communication, camaraderie and hopefully creating a memorable event.
I am also hoping that this could be an annual event. Perhaps not “on the court” every year, but maybe “on the field,” “on the green” or “on the lake,” and perhaps other RYLA graduates might want to further develop those ideas in the future.
I have had some generous donations from Tom Clark and Robert and Susannah Lucas. This money is going towards a banner, new basketball nets and T-shirts for all participants and volunteers.
The Cazenovia Rotary Club will be selling food and drinks during the event and
my teacher (and Cazenovia Village Mayor) Kurt Wheeler, has agreed to be master of ceremonies.
I’m still in the organizational phase. My remaining goals are to find one more sponsor for $250, connect with the Cazenovia College and high school basketball teams and get posters hung up in school.
All are invited to attend Cazenovia Community Connects on Sept. 30, and enjoy the resurfaced court.
