Westhill, Ludden boys soccer both win twice

Warriors beat pair of foes by combined 9-1 margin

Boys soccer teams from Westhill and Bishop Ludden both managed to find wins last week, dodging all kinds of weather along the way.

Westhill, fresh off an overtime confrontation with Cazenovia (a 3-2 overtime victory on Sept. 13), had an easier time of it in last Tuesday night’s game against Jordan-Elbridge, shutting out the Eagles 4-0.

With a 3-0 margin by halftime, the Warriors could relax during the second half, knowing that J-E could muster few real scoring chances. Conor Powell got two goals, with Barak BenYehuda and Jake Etoll (the OT hero of the Cazenovia game) also converting. Tom Kinsella had two assists and Owen Hennigan added one assist.

In Friday’s game at Chittenango, the Warriors prevailed again by the same margin, this time 5-1 as it steadily got away from the Bears after building a 2-0 halftime lead.

BenYehuda had his finest game of the season so far, earning a three-goal hat trick, while Jack Haber put in the other two goals. Owen Hennigan managed a pair of assists and Kinsella got an assist, too.

Bishop Ludden won in overtime Wednesday night, surviving Cato-Meridian 4-3 in an exciting, back-and-forth battle. Both sides scored once in the first half, and both sides got two goals in the second half.

Cato stayed in it despite the fact that Ludden dominated the flow of play, forcing Blue Devils goalie Austin Guiffrida to make 23 saves. The Gaelic Knights pulled through as Ryan Lantry scored twice and Jared Taylor scored, too. Cameron Littlejohn added an assist.

Ludden went from there to defeating Bishop Grimes 3-1 on Friday afternoon, without needing anything extra. All of the goals came in the second half, where Lantry, Taylor and Jesse Williams all converted and Littlejohn gained a pair of assists. Jon Dussing also had an assist.
