Lysander Parks and Recreation: Karate after school

— Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa classes, which require intermediate level, previous yoga experience, will be offered from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays (Sept. 26 to Oct. 24) or from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Thursdays (Sept. 27 to Oct. 25) at AM/PM Yoga Source Studio in Phoenix. The class heightens body awareness, strength and endurance. Vinyasa (Flow Yoga) is a class of continuous movement where one pose flows into another. The breath is synchronized with the movement and sets the length of the holding. This style is more aerobic and more challenging. No Vinyasa experience necessary but should have yoga experience and knowledge of proper alignment in yoga postures.

Putting up the apples

Come and cook with B’ville FACS teacher Chrissy Rode as she turns delicious New York State apples into applesauce, apple pie filling and apple jam. She offers insight into preserving sauces and jams and will explain which apples to cook and which ones to snack on. Come to this workshop, held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 29, at Baker High School, and you will leave with a tasty sample for your efforts.

It’s still in bloom

Come out to Phoenix Flower Farm from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, for a demonstration and talk entitled "It's Still In Bloom?!" where we will see and discuss the topics of late season interest, late season bloom and late season planting. Directions to the farm are available online at phoenixflowerfarm.com. This demonstration is free; registration preferred (call 635-5999).

Functional training

This six-week functional training program is a classification of different exercises, which involves training the body for activities performed in daily life. This class will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays (Sept. 20 to Oct. 25) at Palmer Elementary.
