Lysander Parks and Recreation: Karate after school

— Designed for kindergarten through fifth graders, this program will be held from 3:20 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays (Sept. 26 to Nov. 7) at Elden Elementary School. The goal is to teach self-defense, boxing, kickboxing and fitness while incorporating messages in regards to respect, discipline, confidence and goal setting. At the end of the program, students will participate in a graduation ceremony at Impact Martial Arts (80 Smokey Hollow Road) where the students will earn their white belts. Students are encouraged to join us at the dojo once a week to reinforce new skills.

Fall tennis lessons

Tennis lessons for children 5 to 14 years old are held Monday, Friday or Saturdays from Sept. 21 to Nov. 3 at Gold’s gym in Liverpool.

Hoop fitness

Designed for ages 7 and up, this class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays (Sept. 24, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19) at Elden Elementary. Sweat, smile, and shrink your waistline as you enjoy a childhood pastime! You will have so much fun, you won’t even realize you are working out! You can expect hoop stretching, hoop fitness and learning impressive hoop tricks at every class. Hula hoops will be provided for class work outs.

Beginner guitar lessons

These lessons will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 26 to Nov. 28. Get your guitar out of the closet, blow off the dust and join us for guitar lessons. This class of group lessons will cover basic chording and a variety of strums. We will also learn some solo pieces. Participants must bring their own guitar as this will be a hands-on hour of strumming’. Electric guitars are okay, but with no amp.

Hatha Yoga

This class will be held from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 24 to Oct. 22 at AM/PM Yoga Source Studio in Phoenix. Beginners welcome, no experience necessary. Class is appropriate for most ages, body types and experience levels. Each class will incorporate centering in the body and breath, warm-up stretches, a variety of yoga postures ending with a guided relaxation. Postures and holding times will be tailored to fitness level of the class. Yoga challenges the body and mind through stretching, relaxing and breathing while holding the postures. You will leave class feeling balanced, relaxed and energized.
