COLUMN: The Codes Corner - Keep roads clear of seasonal debris

— Fall is in the air, and so are the leaves and debris that come with it each year. Please remember not to put your yard waste in the street as you are raking and picking up after your trees. Debris needs to be piled between the sidewalk and the road. In areas where there are no sidewalks, the debris needs to be placed on the lawn nearest the street.

Village of Baldwinsville Code 61-19 states that “no person shall deposit any ashes, dirt, refuse or any other substances in the streets or gutters or on any pavement or sidewalk in the Village without obtaining permission from the Superintendent of Public Works.”

When everyone piles the debris into the road it makes it difficult for vehicles to maneuver. Also, there are a lot more bicycles on the roads now and they are required to operate near the edge of the road. If there are piles of yard waste they have to veer out into traffic making for a very hazardous condition.

Please, remember keep the piles in your yards not on the streets.
