Caz Community trail run a success

The Cazenovia high school girls cross country team would like to thank all those who participated or otherwise supported its First Annual Cazenovia Country Trail Run on Sept. 8.

The three-mile fundraiser race, which was held on the Lakers’ Fenner Road cross country course, featured 60 competitors and successfully raised all the funds needed for the girls to buy new uniforms.

The team proposed the idea last spring as a way to replace their outdated (circa 1999) uniforms while helping the school to reserve discretionary funds for more essential items.

Cazenovia Central School District has been able to preserve most programs for students during these tough budgetary times in part by making sharp cuts to items like supplies and uniforms. The athletes worked on the event and helped improve their course over the summer in preparation for the September event.

The Lady Lakers would like to thank all the racers and donors, as well as Fleet Feet Sports for the bib numbers, the school’s buildings and grounds crew for their help with the course and the school’s central and athletic administration for their support for the event.

Special thanks are also due to the boys cross country team for their participation and generous support of the event.

The overall female winner, Lynn Hart, of Cazenovia, finished with a time of 19:52. The overall male winner was Rob Taube, of Liverpool, who logged a time of 19:02, is an alumnus of Cazenovia High School cross country. All those who participated said they enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Fenner countryside and rose to the challenge of the Lakers’ demanding 4,800-meter course.
