Field Guide Series: Ferns

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, Beaver Lake Nature Center offers an in-depth look into the natural history of ferns. During this program, a part of Beaver Lake Nature Center's Field Guide Series, participants will join a naturalist to learn more about identifying native ferns. $5; registration required.

Trail Tales

Preschool-age children, accompanied by an adult, are invited to gather at Beaver Lake Nature Center for the popular Trail Tales program at 1 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 13 and 27. A naturalist reads two stories to the children and then leads the group on a hike themed to match the stories. Free.

Living in the Leaf Litter

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, children from 6 to 12 years old are invited to join a naturalist at Beaver Lake Nature Center to uncover the hidden world that lives beneath the fallen leaves. As children look under leaves, logs and in the dirt, they will discover how important this overlooked habitat is to a variety of cool critters. After exploring what is Living in the Leaf Litter, a surprising, tasty "mud" treat will be enjoyed by all. $9; registration required.

Nature On Wheels

From Sept. 18 to Oct. 16, Beaver Lake Nature Center will offer Nature on Wheels tours at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays featuring the NOWmobile, an electric vehicle that connects visitors with mobility limitations to the fascinating natural areas of Beaver Lake. Each excursion is a ninety-minute tour through the center's diverse habitats. Accompanied by a naturalist, the NOWmobile will slowly travel the trails, stopping occasionally to take a close look at interesting features of nature. $2.50 per person; registration required.

Morgan Hill Day Hike

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, Beaver Lake Nature Center offers the opportunity to explore Morgan Hill with a naturalist. The North Country National Scenic Trail will bring the group on a hilly hike with ponds and forest groves. Participants should bring comfortable hiking boots and a bagged lunch to fully enjoy this day of hiking, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Beaver Lake Nature Center and returning by 3 p.m. $21 per person, includes transportation from Beaver Lake Nature Center to Morgan Hill and back; registration required.
