Editorial: Every ride counts

— Volunteering is a great way for residents to become more familiar with the community they live in. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, the Baldwinsville Volunteer Center is hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Fair from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Baldwinsville Library. There will be more than 20 different local organizations looking for volunteers during this event – it’s a great way to learn about what volunteering opportunity best fits into your interests and schedule.

One volunteer opportunity we at the Messenger would like to highlight is for the B’ville Express. If you enjoy driving, you should consider becoming a volunteer for the program, which offers seniors in the Greater Baldwinsville area transportation to doctors’ appointments, the pharmacy, the grocery store and Canton Woods Senior Center.

An increasingly busy and growing program, B’ville Express relies upon dedicated volunteer drivers with a reliable vehicle to help transport Baldwinsville seniors to necessary appointments. Availability is up to you – you can donate your time when you are available whether it is a couple times a week or once every few of months, every ride counts.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a driver for B'ville Express, contact Ellen Stevens at 638-0097. B'ville Express is located at Canton Woods Senior Center, 76 Canton St. in the village.
