Which test should you take?
Some students end up scoring substantially higher on the SAT, others perform better on the ACT. If you are a reader and good writer then the SAT may be the way to go as the SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary. If you are not a wordsmith then perhaps the ACT is a better choice. If you feel science is not your strength, then the SAT (having no science reasoning) may be the better option. Writing could be the deciding factor as the SAT requires a 25-minute essay, while the 30-minute ACT Writing Test is optional.
All students must take one of these exams in order to complete their college applications. My advice is to take each exam once early in your junior year and decide which comes more naturally. Then test prep for that exam and take it in the spring.
