Paw Prints: Caring for your canine companion

Provide daily interactive exercise and mental stimulation

Letting your dog out in the yard by itself is not ideal exercise. The best exercise for dogs allows them to use their brain too. This can be as simple as throwing the ball for your dog. Or, consider teaching your dog agility.

The amount of exercise you provide your dog varies by breed and life stage, but all dogs require daily, moderate activity to maintain an ideal body condition and prevent behavior problems.

Being a responsible dog owner is not only necessary for the health of your dog, it is important for your family, friends and community. I hope this column will ensure your dog is a part of your life for many years.
