In March 2012, Cazenovia resident Skyler Grimes began taking classes at The Dance Studio of CNY(TDSCNY), located in Manlius. Besides a few months of Jazz classes at another studio, TDSCNY was her first experience with dance.

The group offers everything from ballet to hip-hop dance styles and Grimes said she couldn’t wait to sign up for as many classes as her schedule would allow.

After taking an Acro/Jazz class, she began choreographing her own dances and recording them to post on her YouTube channel, dance1222pie.

When Grimes heard about the Madison County Fair Talent Show, she decided to enter one of her dances. Her performance of “Supermodel” danced to Meagan Oliver’s “Like a Supermodel” earned Grimes a spot in the NYS Talent Showcase competition to be held during the NYS Fair.

Grimes went on to perform “Angel” at the DeRuyter Fireman’s Fair and will be trying out for the TDSCNY Company and Competition Teams in the fall. Grimes spent her entire summer taking all the different dance camps that TDSCNY offered, such that Miss Linda, founder and owner of TDSCNY Manlius and Fairmount, offered a special discount for the summer.

During a summer tumbling camp, Grimes learned to do an aerial — a no-handed cartwheel — in a week’s time. Grimes said thanks to TDSCNY, her love for dance has blossomed into a wonderful, confidence building experience, and now her lifetime dream is to perform on Broadway.
