To the editor:
It has recently come to my attention that several members of Cazenovia’s town board have signed gas drilling leases on their properties.
The decision of whether or not to allow hydrofracking in New York state could ultimately rest in the hands of each town’s board; if so, I feel that this would be a conflict of interest.
Had I known about these leases prior to the most recent board elections, I may have cast my ballot differently.
Several of our neighboring towns are in the same situation with their respective boards. If it is eventually up to each town to decide, let there be a referendum rather than a decision made by a board which may not be accurately representing its constituents’ concerns.
