Betsy Baldwin DAR announces essay contests

— The Betsy Baldwin Chapter DAR is offering two essay contests for students in fifth through 12th grades. All school districts are eligible to participate. Each essay contest will provide monetary awards for the best essays.

The American History Essay Contest is for students in fifth through eighth grades. The title of the essay is "Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence." The Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is for students in ninth through 12th grades. The title of this essay is "How Did the Faith and Courage of Christopher Columbus Give to Mankind a New World?" Students in fifth and sixth grades are invited to participate in the flag essay. The topic of this essay will be "What the Flag of the U.S. Means to Me."

Students and teachers who are interested in participating in these essays may contact Barb Reeves at 635-9090 for more information and contest guidelines. Deadlines for entry at the local level are Feb. 15.
