— “They did a great job,” Updike said. “Westhill came really hard in the second half. They had to make sure they had each others’ backs, and they did.”

Marcellus tacked on an insurance goal in the 58th minute. After a flurry in front of the Westhill net took Warriors goalie Sam Peebles out of the play, Mustang forward Abby Fallon sent a pass across the crease. It was intended for Bird, but a Westhill defender got in the way. Unfortunately for the Warrior player, she redirected it into her own net.

Updike had high praise for her players’ performance. “I thought the girls were outstanding,” she said. “They really kept to the game plan and did a great job.”

Updike admitted to not knowing much about Clinton but a lot about Warriors coach Beth Baker. “I’m friends with (Baker),” Updike said. “Friendship ends when the clock starts.”
