Eagle Hill Middle School evacuated after bomb threat; search finds building safe

— Eagle Hill Middle School students were evacuated from the building because of a possible bomb threat at about 12:40 p.m. today, according to fmschools.org.

School officials said a student saw a message written on a girls’ bathroom wall implying there was a bomb in the building. The student notified a teacher who then notified the principal.

Students and staff were immediately evacuated from the building and sheltered at Enders Road Elementary School, which is next to Eagle Hill.

Manlius Police and F-M's school resource officer were then called to the building. Police and school administrators as well as buildings and grounds staff searched the building and found no credible threats or unusual objects.

“We commend our student for taking immediate steps to notify the teacher after seeing something threatening written on a restroom wall,” said Superintendent Corliss Kaiser. “Although it turned out to be an unfounded threat, the student did the right thing by letting us know so we could evacuate students and staff, secure the building and conduct an investigation. Our staff and Manlius police have done an excellent job of taking the necessary precautions for student safety.”

Once the search was complete and the building was cleared, students were allowed back inside Eagle Hill at about 1:45 p.m. Eighth grade students returned to lunch, and grades five through seven reported to their eighth period classes to finish their day.

With the assistance of Manlius Police, district officials will continue to investigate the incident to find out who wrote the message on the wall.

Police and the school district are investigating a similar incident that took place on Oct. 26. The school was evacuated then as well as police searched the building in response to a student seeing a similar message implying there was a bomb in the building.
