LETTERS: Johnson brings experience to seat

— I hope you have all had a wonderful summer in the face of a season of unprecedented heat. My thoughts go out especially to our local farmers, all of whom seemingly worked tirelessly this year to do the best they could to keep our local produce hydrated. For that we are very appreciative.

Separately, like a fast moving storm, Election Day is rapidly approaching. The good news this year, unlike the severe political storms of the past, is that the tone of our local election has been very positive. For that we must also be very appreciative. To that end, I would like to commend town councilor candidate Russ Johnson for leading that charge by demonstrating that it really is possible to offer a powerful message of wanting to be a productive part of helping us build a brighter future for our town without the need to politically attack or demean another in so doing.

We are fortunate to have a candidate with Russ's background seeking to work together with us on the town board. He brings to the table a tremendous amount of public policy experience from his days as a county legislator and legislature chairman that will have immediate and positive impact on a wide range of issues, including inter-municipal agreements, budgeting, collective bargaining issues and personnel matters. What's even better is that Russ will do this while not having any political axes to grind with anyone from either side of the political aisle.

I support of Russ Johnson's candidacy as our next elected town councilor and I respectfully ask for your consideration and support of him as well. His campaign motto to "Restore Pride" says it all!

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Art Levy is a resident of Lysander and serves as a town councilor.
