LETTERS: Johnson builds consensus across party lines

— Having regained the trust of local politicians from all political persuasions, the business community and the taxpayers as a whole, it came as no surprise that Russ, as a Republican, was also endorsed by both Oswego county Democratic and Conservative committees. His ability to build consensus across party lines is second to none. You see, Russ spoke more with actions than he did with words. He was the perfect example of a person who would put the people before politics – even if it meant having to engage in difficult battles with members from within his own party on issues he believed strongly in, issues that he knew would help move our county ahead. And that he did.

After four years of his leadership, Russ left Oswego county government with an incredibly healthy budget. Reserves were built back up to appropriate levels while property taxes were significantly and consistently reduced for three consecutive years. We still benefit today from the decisions Russ and the bipartisan team of elected and administrative officials made back then.

Although I could never tell anybody how to vote, I can say this: If you choose to select Russ Johnson as your next elected town councilor, I hope I have given you an idea of what you will be getting from him. I am very proud to call him my friend, and you will be very pleased with his innate ability to deal with all issues – large and small for Lysander.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to me and I wish you, my next door neighbors, a great future for you and your town.

Michael Kunzwiler is the Minority Leader of the Oswego County Legislature and Oswego County Democratic Committee Chairman.
