COLUMN: Library moving to registration for many programs

— As the weather cools and the day shortens, library use heats up. Come on down and find out what you’ve been missing or check our program calendar on our website. The calendar is interactive now so you can sign up for programs and program reminders directly from your home computer.

Registering for programs

Until recently, most of our teen and adult programs (with the exception of Wired Wednesdays and craft workshops) have been strictly drop in, but the continuing need to stretch our resources as far as possible has led us to add registration to many of our programs. This allows us to see more accurately how much interest there is in particular programs and services and to cancel offerings that don’t seem to be in demand. Please help us in our attempts to make our library work better by signing up for programs you intend to attend and cancelling if it looks like you won’t be able to make it.

Wired Wednesdays

The transformation is complete. The computer lab is now a full-time classroom with all the bells and whistles to make your hands on computer learning more effective than ever. Visit our interactive calendar at bville.lib.ny.us to sign up for this month’s classes, which include: Your Computer Made Easier at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 10; Climb aboard the Learning Express at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17; Shopping Online at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24; and Online Borrowing from the Library at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

Tech Help Drop-in

Get a little help with your technological learning curve. From 10 a.m. to noon every Friday, librarians will help you with your laptop, mobile device, ereader or tablet. No registration needed.

1940 Census Online

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, Genealogist Louise Creighton will cover how to access the newly released 1940 census data. Free; registration required.
