Caz Pop Warner B-Team tackles Utica Bulldogs, 6-0

— The undefeated Cazenovia Laker Pop Warner B-Team prevailed in a defensive battle with the Utica Bulldogs with a winning score of 6–0, on Sept. 30.

The game started with the Bulldogs deciding to receive the kickoff.

The kickoff play was quickly recovered by Lakers special teams player Patrick Nourse.

The offense got to work, quickly moving the ball into Bulldog territory. Led by Nourse as quarterback, with tough blocking by Chad Carges, Ian Fostveit, Logan Proctor, Christian Monroe, Ben Knutsen, Andrew Johnson, Ryan Wozniak and quick running plays by James Pavelchak, Jacob Macheda and Matthew McLaughlin, the team moved the ball forward. However, the effort was not enough to move the ball past the Bulldogs goal line.

The game quickly became a defensive battle as each team fought for the lead as the score remained 0-0 through half time.

During halftime, the Cazenovia Laker Pop Warner B-Team Cheerleaders, Katie Ammann, Clari Atherlay, Mikhayla Brown, Betsey Chanatry, Carli Cunningham, Makayla Gamble, MaryRose Giangiobbe, McKenzie Giordano, Sarah Hackney, Olivia Hodge, Courtney Holt, MacKenzie Odell, Alexis Sherwood, Kate Sosville, Mackenzie Sullivan, Claudia Waltz and Katrina Wilson, kept the crowd on their feet with their first-place competition routine.

At the start of the third quarter, Jacob Wells returned the kickoff for the Lakers. Hard blocking by the offensive line allowed first down runs by Macheda and McLaughlin, which led to a touch down by Nourse.

With the score 6-0, the determined defense, with the assistance of Joseph Riedl, Connor Riedl, and Issac Sehehi held the Bulldogs to a score of zero. While further Bulldog plays were thwarted with interceptions by Nourse and fumble recoveries by Johnson.

The crowd was on the edge of its seat as the two teams competed for yardage in the fourth quarter.

Tough plays by the Laker defense with yardage loss tackles and continued running play execution by offense kept the Bulldogs on guard.

The close score and valiant effort put forth by the Cazenovia Laker Pop Warner B-Team made for a spectacular game.
