Lysander Parks and Recreation: Tai Chi and other programs

— Held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 11 to Nov. 8, at AM/PM Yoga Source Studio (71 State St., Phoenix), Tai Chi is a soft and gentle form of exercise primarily practiced for its health benefits, dealing with tension and stress, and health recovery. This slow-moving series of movements enhances health and can be practiced by people of all ages and abilities.

CPR and first aid training

Basic CPR and first aid training will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and 8:30 to 10 p.m., respectively, Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department Station 1 on River Road. Offered through BCSFD, registration is required and must be submitted one week prior to class. For more information on the course and requirements, contact Chris Evans at 546-5154.

Fall craft projects for kids

Interested in making crafts for the holidays? Join Ms. Lynn (from Camp Crayola) for a holiday craft project: turning a pumpkin into a Jack-o-latern for Halloween. This craft activity will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lysander Town Hall in the Large Group Room for 3- to 6-year-old children.

Adult basketball

Held from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays (through March 4) at Durgee Jr. High gym, this open program is for adults (21 and older) residing in Lysander and Van Buren only; no children allowed. Teams will be formed from those present; first-time participants must fill out a registration card and show proof of residency (license) then sign in. $2 each evening.

Walking program

Enjoy walking or looking to get out of the fall weather conditions? Join others from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday nights (through March 4) for a brisk walk through Durgee Jr. High School hallways. This is a good way to walk safely indoors and keep fit through the fall and winter months. Free; participants under 16 must have an adult with them; everyone needs to sign in.
