COLUMN: Library Focus - Back into the swing of the school year

— The first month of the school year is already over and the madness of fall is upon us. So much to see, so much to do and limited daylight besides. Nevertheless, we have lots to offer again this month. So check the options and mark your calendars it’s going to be a busy time.

Storytimes are back

Fall storytimes kick off this week. If you haven’t signed up yet, check with the children’s desk. We still have room in several sessions.

Banned Book Week

Think you know what causes books to be banned or challenged? Think again. Books are challenged for all sorts of reasons. Many of the titles are classics you read in school including To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and the recent Harry Potter series. Celebrate your freedom to read by checking out some of them this month.

Wired Wednesdays

The transformation is complete. The computer lab is now a full time classroom with all the bells and whistles to make your hands-on computer learning more effective than ever. Visit our interactive calendar at bville.lib.ny.us to sign up for this month’s classes:

Local papers are getting hard to find. Find out how to fill the gap at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 3 with Our Local Paper Online.

Even if you’re an old hand, there are always new ways to improve your computer experience. Discover some of them at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 10 with Your Computer Made Easier.

Classrooms aren’t over just yet but there are lots of new learning opportunities that you can unlock with your library card and a pin number.

At 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17, you’re invited to Climb Aboard the Learning Express, a great online tool for brushing up academic basics and practicing tests including GED, ASVAB and many vocational and Civil Service tests.
