Pompey Sunday afternoon, Oct. 7, is the Pompey Historical Society’s fifth annual Pompey Pumpkin Fest.
“We want to encourage a sense of community and keep some old-fashioned customs alive for the enjoyment of both adults and children,” said President Gail Moreland. Visitors are welcome anytime from 1 to 4 p.m., but there will be special entertainment between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. by humorist Larry Brennan, whose puppet and ventriloquist skills are sure to attract audience participation.
“Families will also enjoy music by the folk-acoustic rock band Butternut Creek, watching an expert carve pumpkins, painting a pumpkin — or getting their own faces decorated,” said event organizer Jim Alexander. Children can also try their hands at working an old-fashioned cider press, get their photos taken with the pumpkin mascot, and perhaps find a special pumpkin to take home. There will also be pumpkin foods and custom T-shirts for sale.
The free event is at the Society’s Pomeroy-Coe Heritage Center, Route 20 at Pompey Center Road, with plenty of parking at the Town Hall.
