Got a young reader who’s reluctant to practice reading aloud in front of you? Let them stretch their skills with this storytime for dogs. Specially trained dogs from the Sunshine Friends provide a friendly, non-judgmental audience improving confidence for young readers between 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 1 and 15. To sign up or get more information on this popular program contact the Children’s Desk at the library.

Tree lighting celebration

Come to the library after the Greater B’ville Chamber of Commerce Tree Lighting Saturday, Dec. 1, for a special after hours event. You’ll have a chance to meet Santa, enjoy a hot beverage, storytelling, face painting, short holiday films and carolers.

Electric holiday

Take a chance on winning yourself or your loved one a sweet new piece of technology that will keep them entertained 24/7 with eBooks, Angry Birds and more. We’re selling chances on a Nook HD+ at the circulation desk for a drawing on Dec. 3. Tickets are $1 a piece or 6 for $5 and you must be 18 to enter. You may not win but the odds are better than the lottery and the proceeds have local benefits.

College planning workshop

High school students, parents and the college-bound of all ages can learn about the college planning process from College Assistance Plus including financial aid and choosing schools from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Wired Wednesdays

Wired Wednesdays gets a little more personal for the holidays this year offering courses to make your holiday a little easier and more festive while still helping you master important computer skills. This month’s classes (all held at 1:30 p.m.) include: Using Excel to Track Holiday Gifts Dec. 5; Creating a Family Newsletter in Word Dec. 12; and Playing Computer Music Files Dec. 19. All classes are limited to 10 Hands-on participants so be sure to make your reservation early. Sign up online or call 635-5631 to register.
