Baldwinsville On Thursday, Nov. 15, the annual Burrill E. Wells, Jr. Historic Preservation Award was given out at the annual meeting of the Museum at the Shacksboro Schoolhouse. Ed McManus presented the award, which was given to more than one person this year.
The first honoree was PAC-B TV for all the filming of historic projects and talks that help preserve this history on video. Pat Leonard and Ron Root accepted the award for PAC-B TV as they were there filming Ben Schlaters' presentation about the renovation of their home.
The second award went to Ben and Nicole Schlater, who have been renovating their home at 61 Oswego St., the former Payne Bigelow House built in 1847. They have redone the outside of their home and done their best to preserve the original trim. They had to jack up parts of the house and porch and take of existing metal siding to uncover what was there, not to mention removing layers of paint from trim and other parts of the home. Although they have done much on the inside, the presentation focused mainly on the exterior.
Congratulations award winners!
