Meghan, Julia and Kaleen Allyn volunteered as bell ringers during last year’s Dickens Christmas.
Skaneateles The 2012 Dickens Christmas will celebrate its 19th year in Skaneateles, and, as in years past, Salvation Army Red Kettles will be in three different locations throughout the village raising money for people in need.
During the holiday season, 90 percent of the money raised will stay in Skaneateles to help those with basic needs such as food, utility bills, medical needs, and self-help programs. Through the generous donations of Skaneateles residents and visitors, bell ringers collected more than $4,000 for the Salvation Army in 2011.
The Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce coordinates volunteers to ring for the Salvation Army each year, and is currently looking to fill one-hour shifts consisting of two people for each shift on all 12 days of Dickens Christmas in Skaneateles this year.
Bell ringers are needed from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 24 through Dec. 23; also from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30; and from noon to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24.
Anyone interested in donating an hour or two of time to ring the bells this Christmas, call the chamber at 685-0552 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
