To the editor:
I am writing to express my support of the proposed extension of the town water and sewer lines to areas around the lake. The lake is a beneficial resource for our town and we need to protect it.
I am a homeowner on North Lake Road and many of us have wells that run out of water and some have had to re-drill. Neighbors fear that chemical treatments on lawns are entering the groundwater while other neighbors worry that the new vineyard on East Lake Road is drawing off water and depleting the supply.
At my house, we are running out of water and it seems to be worsening. Many people who were surveyed want the septic and water systems extended. It will be expensive, but keep in mind that cost estimates have not included grants that could make a significant difference.
We need to be far-sighted and think about the health of the lake for future generations. I appreciate that another bill to pay is not welcome but we cannot sacrifice the lake. I am not wealthy and my husband and I have college bills to pay for our children, but I want their children to be able to appreciate an unpolluted lake and protect the resale value of our homes.
For many of us, our homes are our largest investment and we cannot afford to lose that. I encourage everyone who is in favor of this project to make their voices heard and attend the upcoming meeting about this issue at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Cazenovia Library Community Room.
