Baldwinsville junior middle hitter Amanda May (6) puts all of her power into a spike attempt in last Wednesday night’s Class AA final against Fayetteville-Manlius. May and the Bees swept the Hornets, and went on to sweep Shenendehowa Saturday to earn a return trip to this weekend's state tournament in Glens Falls.
Aided by first-rate defense, B'ville kept answering every Shen threat. The Bees pulled out the opening set 25-21, held off the Plainswomen 25-22 in the second set, and pulled out another 25-21 decision in the third set to complete one of the team's closest matches of the fall.
Lexi Lagoy amassed 17 kills to pace the Bees' front line. Allegra Lee Bell managed eight kills, with Sarah Herman contributing five kills and three aces. Danielle Sayler, in addition to her three aces, got eight digs as back-line mate Maureen Thayer carved out 36 assists.
Both of B'ville's sides will get into round-robin play next Saturday at Glens Falls Civic Center, hoping to advance to Sunday's championship matches. This marks the first time both state volleyball championships are taking place in the same venue.
