Baldwinsville Second-graders at McNamara Elementary School recently celebrated their writing accomplishments with a pourquoi publishing party in the school library.
For several months, students have been studying pourquoi tales. Pourquoi is French for why. The tales are imaginative explanations of why or how something exists, such as why a tiger has stripes.
The writing project integrated the art curriculum. In art class, each student chose an animal to illustrate with watercolors before developing their original tales, using their animals as inspiration.
The second-graders shared their final stories and illustrations with each other in the library before enjoying a snack of animal crackers.
