A Report from Station 54

— On Saturday, April 28, the members of the Skaneateles Fire Department and their guests attended the annual dinner and installation of officers at the Orchard Vali Golf Club in LaFayette. Prior to dinner and desert being served, Years of Membership awards were presented to numerous members for their continued dedication to the Skaneateles Fire Department.

One member in particular, John Manilla, received official proclamations from the Village and Town boards of Skaneateles for his 60 years of service to the Skaneateles community.

Once dinner concluded, Chief Eric Sell addressed the members and their guests, thanking them for continued support of the Skaneateles Fire Department. Chief Sell presented certificates of appreciation to those agencies that have provided mutual aid assistance to the Skaneateles Fire Department over the course of the last year.

Also recognized for the continued support of the Skaneateles Fire Department was the Red Rooster Pub in Skaneateles Falls. Red Rooster Pub owner, Tom Benedict is also a member of the Skaneateles Fire Department. First Assistant Chief Dan Evans then reviewed the top 10 responders for the past year and they are as follows:

2nd Asst. Chief Fred Squires, 284, 73.4%, 2

Firefighter Dave Newell, 244, 63.0%, 3

Fire Police Jorge Batlle, 240, 62.0%, 4

Firefighter Dick Perkins, 235, 60.7%, 5

1st Assistant Chief Dan Evans, 186, 48.1%, 6

Firefighter Frank Lessaongang, 175, 45.2%, 7

Firefighter Paul Murphy, 172, 44.4%, 8

Captain Scott Short, 168, 43.4%, 9

Firefighter Mike Drake, 168, 43.4%,

Firefighter Richard Bailer, 155, 40.1%, 10

Following those awards, various department members were recognized for their contributions over the past year. SAVES Chief of Operations Jeff VanBeveren, presented both Chief Eric Sell and First Assistant Chief Dan Evans with a “Call Commendation” from the Central New York Regional Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc. for their actions during a medical emergency last July.
