Chabad-Lubavitch of CNY to celebrate Shavout

— Jewish educational outreach organization Chabad-Lubavitch of Central New York will begin its celebration of Shavuot this year with a “Bridge the Generations Ice Cream Party and Reading of The Ten Commandments” event.

The event will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the Oaks at Menorah Park, 18 Arbor Lane, DeWitt.

Shavuot commemorates the giving of the Torah, beginning with the Ten Commandments, on Mount Sinai 3,322 years ago. The holiday begins Saturday, May 26, with a candle lighting event at 9:24 p.m.

In honor of Tikkun Leil Shavuot, an ancient Jewish custom of staying awake the first night of Shavuot, Chabad-Lubavitch of CNY will be hosting a “Where Should The Torah Be: Heaven or Earth” class from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. May 26 at the Chabad House on 825 Ostrom Ave.

The organization will also offer two readings of the Ten Commandments on Sunday, May 27. At 11 a.m., there will be a service and a reading of the Ten Commandments at the Chabad House.

Chabad-Lubavitch of CNY will hold Shavuot Yizkor memorial services at 11:45 a.m. Monday, May 28, also at the Chabad House.
