— Zackary Osier, a third-grader at Reynolds Elementary School, enjoys breakfast in his classroom before taking the state ELA assessment. The school was able to provide every child in third through fifth grades with a healthy breakfast all three mornings of the ELA assessment, which students took the week of April 16. The school purchased the breakfasts with money it received this year in a Fuel Up to Play 60 grant from the National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League (NFL). Teacher Jon Langstaff, who heads up the Fuel Up to Play 60 program at Reynolds, says students seem better able to focus and sit still for the assessments when they have eaten a nutritious breakfast.
