After competing at the nation level on April 26 and 27 in Albuquerque, N.M., members of the Cazenovia Academic Decathlon Team arrived back in Cazenovia the afternoon of April 29.

The squad placed 25th overall and fifth in Division III in the nation.

“I am very proud of the team this year. They worked very hard to achieve their goal of recapturing the state title,” said Coach Martin Kelly. “I am very lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of students.”

Following the speech portion of competition, Max Blair won a gold medal and Sam Medbury won bronze. The two students each beat out more than 125 students from around the nation to earn the awards.

Bob Louis achieved the highest score on the team, winning a $500 scholarship.

After the competition ended, the AD team spent some time exploring Albuquerque, relaxing in Old Town and sight-seeing along the Rio Grande.

The team was invited to the national competition after placing first at the New York State Academic Decathlon Championship Tournament on March 9 and 10 at Onondaga Community College.
