Baldwinsville The Pizza and Pull Party, held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, allows participants to learn about invasive species in a practical way. The Nature Center is organizing a group of Beaver Lake devotees for a morning of exercise and eradication: pulling out invasive plants before they spread further. A guide will supervise to help with identification questions and best uprooting techniques. The nature center will thank participants for their help with pizza for lunch.
Preschool age children, accompanied by an adult, are invited to gather at Beaver Lake Nature Center for the popular Trail Tales program at 1 p.m. Thursdays, May 17 and 31. A naturalist reads two stories to the children and then leads the group on a hike themed to match the stories. Free.
Wyllie Fox Farms seeding sales
Wyllie Fox Farms is coming to Beaver Lake Nature Center for three seedling sales this spring. Located in Cato, Wyllie Fox Farms uses sustainable, organic farming practices to yield high-quality, naturally-grown produce. The seedling sales will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, (seeds include tomatoes, squash, melons, peppers, eggplant, flowers and more).
The Sounds of Beaver Lake
At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, the Sounds of Beaver Lake will challenge participants to test their knowledge on the sounds of local frogs, birds and mammals. Using recorded sounds and during a walk in the woods, a naturalist at Beaver Lake Nature Center will provide the opportunity to become familiar with the sounds made by the park's resident wildlife. $5; registration required.
Beaver Lake Nature Center is currently taking registration for Spring and Summer Shares Community-Supported Agriculture. CSAs are popular because they provide consumers with local, seasonal, fresh produce directly from a farmer. Beaver Lake Nature Center makes this healthy, responsible opportunity easy by having the farm deliver the produce to the nature center for participants to pick up. The Spring Share runs from May 10 to June 7 for $165 and the Summer Share runs from June 12 to Oct. 23 for $565. Call the nature center to sign up.
