Cazenovia Dave Porter, who has served as a Village Trustee since 2010, has been nominated by the Cazenovia Democratic Party to run for re-election. He will also run on the Strong Community Party line in the election to be held on Tuesday, June 19.
Porter, a 22-year resident of Cazenovia, is a licensed professional engineer, a Certified Energy Manager and a LEED Accredited Professional for building design and construction. He was an officer in the United States Navy from 1977 to 1981, worked for 20 years at Stearns & Wheler in Cazenovia and is currently employed at Bergmann Associates in Syracuse as senior mechanical and energy engineer.
In Cazenovia, Porter has been active in the Lions Club, the Cazenovia Public Library and the Cazenovia Youth Soccer Association.
He is currently serving as the Fire Commissioner and the Parks and Recreation Commissioner, and also handles the village’s employee benefit and insurance issues. Highlights of his two years of work on the Cazenovia Village Board include the purchase of 6 Farnham St. for future use by the local fire department; a shared services agreement with Earlville to use Cazenovia skatepark equipment for their youth; continuing the smooth operation of the boat launch and continued analysis of invasive species data; and transitioning the Joint Youth Recreation Program to a new director following Joe Fallon’s retirement.
Porter has been a valuable member of the village team, and his engineering and environmental background have been of critical help to the village in projects such as the Clark Street bridge, the restoration of Carpenter’s Barn, and ongoing storm water management issues.
