The “community mile” will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9. Participants must be able to complete one mile within 15 minutes. If interested, please register for the event by contacting the F-M Athletic Office at 692-1919.
An invite-only “elite run” will take place at 6:45 p.m. followed by a ribbon cutting at 7 p.m.
Immediately following the ribbon cutting, the F-M varsity boys and girls track teams will host the Oswego City School District for a track and field competition.
The Fayetteville-Manlius Community Sports Facility Association, a nonprofit group of community members, paid for and coordinated the construction of a new all-weather synthetic turf field and the resurfacing of the track that surrounds the field. The group, which worked closely with school district officials, donated the track and field project to the school. It was complete in August, and no district dollars were spent on the project.
The association raised more than $1.4 million, which covered both the cost of construction of the facility as well as the establishment of a $100,000 field replacement fund to be used when the turf needs to be replaced.
