Caz Public Library offers new genealogy resources

— Have you ever wondered who your ancestors were or what role your family played in history?

Through the continued generosity of the Friends of the Library, the popular online resources Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest are now available at the Cazenovia Public Library.

All are invited to attend a power-point presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 in the Community Room when Elisha Davies, staff person in charge of the archives, and Laine Gilmore, certified genealogical researcher, will demonstrate the online databases and answer questions.

With access to the online services, users have the ability to search through thousands of records, providing unprecedented access to family history via documents that record the lineage of over five billion individuals.

Everyone will be able to discover the “Story of You” inside the more than 4,000 databases of family information.

The library also recently unveiled a genealogy computer, located in the Reference Room, for the sole use of genealogical research. Besides the two online databases, the computer will contain “CazFolk,” an index created by Russ Grills consisting of names mentioned in 19th Century Cazenovia newspapers, census records, and cemetery records.

For those who prefer to use their own laptop, both Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest are available through the library’s wireless connection.

Whether a seasoned genealogist or hobbyist, an expert or novice, answers await as you unearth your past.

For more information, call the library at 655-9322 or visit cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.

Just a reminder: $8 will buy a canvas bag decorated with the Cazenovia Public Library Logo. Stylish and sturdy, these bags will go anywhere you go. Stop by the library to pick one up.
