Mityashita to perform in Cazenovia

— Classical guitarist Sachiko Miyashita, of Sapporo, Japan, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in Cazenovia College’s Catherine Cummings Theatre, located at 16 Lincklaen St. in Cazenovia.

General admission for adults is $10; and $5 for children 12 and under.

Miyashita, who has played guitar since age seven, has performed professionally since 1984 when she was 13 years old. A graduate of Hokkaido University in Japan, she received a diploma de merito from Academia Mucisale Chigiana, in Siena, Italy. She is an instructor at Sapporo Otani University’s Department of Music and is a member of the Japan Federation of Guitarists.

Miyashita began winning prizes at age 13 when she received the Sapporo City Outstanding Artist Award in 1984. She has won numerous prizes and awards since then including first prize in the Tokyo Classical Guitar Competition in 1991 and second prize in the 2002 Andres Segovia International Competition in Spain. She was chosen outstanding student at the 2002 International Guitar Seminar, and has toured in Japan, Europe, Central America and the United States. She has produced three music CDs.
