Baldwinsville At 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, a very talented young musician will be returning to Baldwinsville to perform a free program at the First Presbyterian Church located just a block north of the four corners of Baldwinsville.
John Kamfonas is the grandson of one of the church’s parishioners and has performed several concerts at the church. This year, he will include music by various composers such as Busoni, Liszt, and Corigliano in addition to some of his own improvisations. All are welcome.
Embracing his penchant for improvisation alongside his passion for the classical repertoire, Kamfonas has given wide-ranging performances including a fully improvised solo piano concert at Columbia University, solo and collaborative harpsichord performances with Manhattan School of Music's Baroque Aria Ensemble and solo concerts featuring both composed works and free improvisations in cities around the country. Recent solo engagements include performances in Philadelphia, Syracuse, Steinway Hall and Baruch Performing Arts Center in New York City, Bethlehem, PA, and Greencastle, IN as a guest artist of the Greencastle Summer Music series.
Other summer festival performances include appearances at the International Academy of Music in Tuscany, Aspen Music Festival, PianoSummer at New Paltz, and Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, where he had the honor of performing in the final young artist gala concert held at the Central Conservatory of Beijing.
