Village of Minoa announces tentative budget with no tax increase

The village of Minoa’s proposed tentative budget for fiscal year 2012-2013 will have no tax increase, according to Mayor Richard J. Donovan.

Mayor Donovan said he is “very proud of [the] staff and the board of trustees for being very resourceful, innovative and creative in their daily approach to being as efficient as possible.”

He said the budget process was a very painful one given the loss of over $250,000 in sales tax as well as unfunded mandates from the state which continues to put a huge burden on local governments.

The proposed tentative budget will also be under the state imposed tax cap, however, Mayor Donovan said he is going to ask the board to waive the tax cap because the margin of error is very small and he doesn’t want the village to suffer penalties in the future if the comptroller has different findings.
