B’ville native turns 90

— Former Baldwinsville resident Fred D. Voorhees turned 90 years old on March 13, 2012. He was born on March 13, 1922 to Glancy and Clara Voorhees in Baldwinsville, one of 12 children, six boys and six girls.

Fred was attracted at an early age to large teams of draft horses pulling cargo. At age 6, Fred began delivering fresh milk before school to local townsfolk, adding a quart of milk per day to the family coffer. By age 11, he was driving the teams and at age 14, he drove tractor trailer loads of cargo from Buffalo to Rhode Island.

In May 1942, he married his sweetheart, Rose Nuss. Daughter Patty was born shortly after the war and in 1955 they left Ira, NY for Phoenix, Az. Fred currently resides in San Juan Capistrano, Ca.

Fred enjoys spending time with family and friends and returns home to Central New York every summer. We all wish him a happy 90th birthday.
